Abbe Museum

Located in downtown Bar Harbor, see Maine’s Native American heritage come alive. Native Americans have lived in Maine for more than 12,000 years. They have traditions in songs, stories, fine basketry, and wood carving. Learn about the Passamaquoddy, Penobscot, Micmac and Maliseet tribes – all of which still live in Maine today. There are many culture exhibits that change on a weekly basis. The Abbe houses more than 50,000 objects spanning 10,000 years including stone and bone tools and pottery, which were excavated during the Abbe’s archaeology field research.  26 Mount Desert St, Bar Harbor.  207-288-3519. Seal Cove Auto Museum

At the Seal Cove Auto Museum you will find a wide variety of antique autos, from an 1899 DeDion Bouton to a 1924 Mercer, with a special emphasis on examples from the “Brass Era” (1895-1917). Many of these automobiles and motorcycles have been restored to world-class condition, while others remain in their original, un-restored condition. Antique car enthusiasts as well as those who simply enjoy cars from the past will delight in the beauty, mystery and romance of this unique collection.  1414 Tremont Rd, Seal Cove.  207-244-9242. Dorr Museum at College of the Atlantic

The George B. Dorr Museum of Natural History investigates, interprets and displays the natural world of Maine. All exhibits are designed and produced by students at College of the Atlantic, and include a touch tank. The Museum is housed in the original headquarters of Acadia National Park, renovated and expanded to provide a unique site for exhibits, programs, and activities. The gift shop offers a wonderful selection of books, gifts, toys and jewelry for children and adults related to the natural sciences.  105 Eden Street, Bar Harbor.  207-288-5395.
